FO'C en el catolicismo USA

Hay un interesante retrato que hacer del catolicismo en Estados Unidos a partir de pasajes del libro de B. Alexander*. Por ejemplo estos tres.

Aquí cuenta a Betty Hester una entrevista que le hicieron en Tim:

He wanted me to characterize myself so he would have something to write down. Are you a Southern writer? What kind of Catholic are you? Etc. I asked him what kinds of Catholics there were. Liberal or conservative, says he. All I did for an hour was stammer and stutter and all night I was awake answering his questions with the necessary qualifications and reservations (195-6. 17 October 1959).

Quería que me definiera a mí misma para tener algo sobre lo que escribir. ¿Es usted una escritora sureña? ¿Qué tipo de católica es? Etc. Le pregunté qué clases de católicos había. Liberal o conservador, dice él. I am glad you are learning something about Catholicism for whether or not you are ever able to accept the Church, you will at least not utter the idiocies against her, the like of which have been prevalent around here and elsewhere during the past campaign. Some time or other, I would advise you to read “The Unity of Philosophical Experience,” by Etienne Gilson; “Three Reformers,” by Jacques Maritain; “The Disinherited Mind,” by Erich Heller. I think they would give you some kind of a base to cope from (214. 14 de noviembre 1960).

Me alegro de que estés aprendiendo algo sobre el catolicismo, porque ya seas capaz o no de aceptar la Iglesia, al menos no dirás idioteces contra ella como las que dominaron aquí y en otros lugares durante la última campaña. En algún momento te aconsejaría leer “La unidad de la experiencia filosófica”, de Etienne Gilson; “Tres reformadores”, de Jacques Maritain; “La mente desheredada”, de Erich Heller. Creo que te pueden dar algún tipo de base de la que partir.
