Erik Langjkaer fue lo más cercano que tuvo FO'C a un novio. Él acabó alejándose y se casó en Dinamarca. Cuando salió La buena gente del campo se vio retratado en el personaje de Manley Pointer, vendedor de biblias. En esta carta, dentro de las que le escribió y se publicaron, ella lo niega, aunque es sintomático el mar de fondo que se nota:

Y si crees que la historia también es mi autobiografía espiritual, quítatela también. De hecho, escribí eso no mucho después de tu partida y quise enviarte una copia, pero decidí que sería una muestra de tacto no hacerlo. Tu contribución fue en gran parte en materia de propiedades. Nunca dejes que se diga que no aprovecho al máximo la experiencia y la información, por escasa que sea. Pero en cuanto a la estructura principal de esa historia, es de engaño, algo que ciertamente nunca pongo en relación contigo. A mi manera modesta, creo que es una historia maravillosa. La leo una y otra vez y nadie la disfruta tanto como yo, que es más o menos el caso de todas mis producciones.

I read it over and over and nobody enjoys it as much as I do—which is more or less the case with all my productions.
