Aparece en las Collected Works de The Library of America (919-922), pero no en El hábito de ser. A mí me suena como nueva. Ahí le explica sobre Sangre Sabia (Wise Blood) a Carl Hartmann (2 March 54):
Escribí el libro como lo habría hecho Enoch [el personaje de Sangre Sabia], sin saber muy bien por qué hacía algo pero sabiendo que cuadraba. Creo que todo en el libro cuadra y eso es algo que me asombra (...) Sangre Sabia va sobre un santo protestante, escrito desde el punto de vista de una católica (...) Por supuesto, no quiero sugerir una conexión entre lo Católico con mayúscula y el simple hecho de que Haze [Hazel Motes] haya declarado que no hay Caída ni Pecado, pero primero hay que aceptar que el libro está escrito por alguien que cree que hubo una Caída, ha habido una Redención y habrá un Juicio. ... y eso es lo que sugiero que es aquello de lo que no se podía librar Haze (aunque en sus propios términos, no en los míos)...
I wrote the book just like Enoch would have, not knowing too well why I did what but knowing it was right. I think everything in the book is right and I am astounded by it. (...) Wise Blood is about a Protestant saint, written from the point of view of a Catholic. (...) Of course, I don’t mean to imply a direct connection between Catholic with a large C and the simple fact that Haze’s having declared there was no fall and no sin, but first you must accept the fact that the book is written by someone who believes that there was a fall, has been a Redemption, and will be a judgment….and this is what I imply Haze could not get away from (though in his terms not in mine) (...) 'It is a remarkable product' no se sabe si es elogio o crítica, pero me ha encantado.
Lo que no ponen es la continuación del comentario de Evelyn Waugh "si lo ha hecho una señorita sin ayuda". A la madre de Flannery le fastidió el comentario, pero a ella le hizo gracia:
“Harcourt sent my book to Evelyn Waugh and his comment was: “If this is really the unaided work of a young lady, it is a remarkable product.” My mother was vastly insulted. She put the emphasis on 'if' and 'lady'. Does he suppose you’re not a lady? she says.”

Por cierto que esta semana se ha muerto el hijo pequeño de Evelyn Waugh, Septimus (que era el séptimo de sus hijos).
Qué gracia. que imprimiesen solo la parte neutra del comentario.
