De lo que oyó un bloguero en una conferencia sobre Flannery de Marion Montgomery:

No hay ningún personaje decente en los relatos de Flannery. Todos están necesitados de gracia. Les vemos a todos huyendo de ella, y vemos a unos pocos capturados por ella; pero O'Connor siempre les deja en ese punto -sin molestarse en juzgarles. Les lleva al umbral del purgatorio -y muy apropiadamente- les deja allí.

There isn't a decent character in O'Connor's stories. They are all in need of grace. We see them all running from it, and we see a few arrested by it; but O'Connor always leaves them at that point--never deigning to judge them. She brings them to the threshold of purgatory, and--quite appropriately--leaves them there.
